I'll hand you the fact that they are more efficient. However, they let off a HUGE amount of gas waste, which decreases the ozone layer, plus it makes our air toxic. Oil and gas are more efficient, but the old-school furnaces let off less gas emissions.

Wrong. Thermal energy does not have "momentum" the way a car does. You will always save more energy by turning the heat down/off than you will use heating the house back up again, whether you turn it off for 1 hour or 1 year.

55 degrees at night? I have tried this and woke up in the middle of the night freezing and having to pee! I even wear sweats, double socks, etc under 2 quilts.
I think 65 degrees might be a tad more agreeable...and I wont catch pneumonia.
